COVID-19 What can the Arts do?

As we find ourselves in this unknown territory of social distancing and time away from everyone, I can't help but turn inward and try to look at what can I do to help others navigate this situation.

As an artist, art teacher and art therapist, I feel strongly that the arts are there for people to use to express these whirling thoughts, work out the tensions, document the passage of time, and help us to move forward. It strengthens our minds and makes us stronger.

I am hoping that I can do my pART by posting some ideas on how to help yourselves or your kids to do art in these challenging times. Take the challenge instead to find out more about yourself and make yourself a better person.

As Mr Rogers says,

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”

Do art! And express the mentionable :)
